Lorde joined the anti-Israel boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement, announcing last December that she was canceling her concert in Tel Aviv amid pressure from BDS supporters.

Florida has no tolerance for anti-Israel boycotts. In 2016, it enacted an anti-BDS law that prohibits the state from doing $1 million or more of business with any company that participates in the BDS movement. On July 1st, a new bill will be put into effect to bring the amount down to $0. The BDS movement singles out Israel for condemnation and punishment, falsely accusing the only democracy in the Middle East of apartheid while ignoring real human-rights-abusing countries. Indeed, while Lorde refused to perform in Israel, she has not canceled her upcoming concerts in Russia or Indonesia, countries with well-established egregious human rights records.

Please join ZOA in writing to the Tampa Sports Authority and the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority to demand that they comply with Florida law and take a stand against hate, bigotry, and discrimination. Targeting the one Jewish state in the world, and the only flourishing democracy in the Middle East, with boycotts, is anti-Semitic, wrong, and illegal.

SAMPLE LETTER:

I was proud when the state of Florida passed a law in 2016 – with almost unanimous bipartisan support – to fight back against Jew-hatred, bigotry, and discrimination. The law prohibits government contracts with companies that support the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement. BDS singles out Israel, falsely accusing the only democracy in the Middle East of apartheid, while ignoring real human rights abusers. It facilitates anti-Semitism. The musician Lorde, who is scheduled to perform at your venue in April, is part of the BDS movement. She canceled her Israel performance at the movement’s request. It’s worth noting that she is still scheduled to perform in Russia and Indonesia, two obvious human rights violators. Hosting Lorde’s performances violates Florida’s anti-BDS law. I urge you to abide by the law and take a stand against Jew-hatred, bigotry, and discrimination. Please cancel Lorde’s upcoming performance.

Sincerely, Your Name
